On the 5th October we held our annual Denbies Hill Climbing competition. We had a truly beautiful day – it was what one imagines a perfect autumn Sunday morning to be like. 🍂☀️
This obviously had something to do with the nice weather, but I think today’s was the most popular Denbies Hill Climb in recent years!
The club rides started half an hour earlier so that everyone could arrive on time, both the competitors and those who came to cheer. This was a really nice gesture because it was nice to see so many supportive people, to hear their encouragement. Because of all that I think it was a little easier to bear the pain. 😅
Is was a busy event – I am not sure about the exact numbers, but I think the ratio was half and half of the participants from the club and the guest competitors. A lot of different people came. There were people like me who had no idea what they were doing and didn’t really like climbing mountains (at all), but there were also those who finished in around 5 minutes. You get the idea. 😏
It was interesting to see that even though we could use the “track”, it wasn’t closed, so anyone could go up. Because of the nice weather, there were a lot of people, many were walking their dogs, children, and even many were riding bicycles. At first this might have been a cause for concern, but in the end, as far as I know, fortunately they didn’t cause anyone any trouble for any of the riders.
After the event all rides headed up to Box Hill, where we took a picture together and had another good laugh about how crazy this whole hill climbing thing is. It’s nonsense really, I still don’t understand why people do it. You only go up so you can come down later. If it were up to me, I would just go around. But fortunately it’s not up to me and that’s how the world goes. But all jokes aside, it was really good fun, and if you haven’t tried it yet, I hope to see you next year! 😇
As always, this was a well-organized TT, and on behalf of myself and the club I would like to thank the organizers for their work and time. Without them this would not have been possible. Thank You! 🙏♥️
